AnnaDixon Edgerton Dunstan peacefully relocated to heaven at 5:47 p.m. onMay 12, 2015, surrounded by love at Spring Arbor in Kill Devil Hills.
Bornon Sept. 11, 1924, Ann was raised in Goldsboro, N.C. as the middlechild of Cedric Errol Edgerton and Grace Slaughter Edgerton. After graduating from Goldsboro High School, she continued hereducation at UNC-Greensboro where she received her degree in elementaryeducation. She then traveled several states before settling inElizabeth City, where she met, married, and shared life with the lateGarland Herrington Dunstan. Her love of children was evident byher long career of teaching elementary school. Later she enjoyedteaching kindergarten and pre-K at Ding-Dong School.
Ann wasvery active in the First United Methodist Church, Colonial Dames,Daughters of the American Revolution, and many other volunteergroups. Her favorite pastime was bridge, which she loved playingin several clubs and groups.
She is survived by her sister JeanE. Winch of New Jersey; her three sons, Garland H. “Gary” Dunstan Jr. in Nags Head, Cedric Edgerton Dunstan in Elizabeth City,and John Forrest Dunstan in Kill Devil Hills; fivegrandchildren, Amanda Dunstan, Suzi Dunstan Aycock, JenniferDunstan, Forrest Dunstan, and Sydney Dunstan, and fourgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother,John Slaughter Edgerton.
A celebration of life will be held atFirst United Methodist Church on the corner of Road and Church Streetsin Elizabeth City on Friday, May 15, at 2 p.m., with a receptionimmediately following. The family will also receive guests from5-9 p.m. on Thursday evening at the home of John Dunstan, 212 TowerLane in Kill Devil Hills. In lieu of flowers, memorial donationsmay be shared with the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or theElizabeth City First United Methodist Church (ecfumc.org).
