BUXTON– Calvin Dallas Burrus Jr. 83, died on Oct. 16, 2014 at his home. Bornin Hatteras, he was the son of the late Calvin Burrus Sr. and EssieSpires Burrus. Mr. Burrus served his country in the United States CoastGuard from 1950 until 1953 and was a county commissioner from 1963until 1966. Calvin was also the first fire chief of Buxton and heldthis position from 1963 until 1972. From 1963 to 1969, he served on theboard of the Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative. Calvin was an activemember of Lighthouse Assembly of God and had served as a deacon since1972. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, andgreat-grandfather. Loved and respected by all, he will truly be missed.
Mr.Burrus is survived by his wife of 60 years, Milly Burrus; three sons,Dal Burrus of Buxton, Danny Burrus and wife, Olivia, of Nags Head andDarren Burrus and wife, Renee of Buxton; six grandchildren, Tyke Elyand wife, Cheri, Cathy Duncan and husband, Paul, Emilie Mason andhusband, Shane, Daniel Burrus, Ashley Burrus, and Adrian Burrus; andseven great-grandchildren, Starr, Dirk, Morgan, Marshall, Ethan, Dallasand Asher. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a son,Don Burrus.
A funeral will be held on Sunday, Oct. 19, at theLighthouse Assembly of God at 3 p.m. with the Rev. David Danielsofficiating. A reception will follow the service at the LighthouseAssembly Family Life Center. The family will receive friends andrelatives at the church on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 7 until 9 p.m.
