AVON– Joseph J. Gallagher passed away peacefully Friday, March 28, atLower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, N.C. His wife, SusanGallagher, was by his side. He was 67.
Joseph servedin the U.S. Navy as a photographer before spending 25 years helpingothers as a firefighter in Camden, N.J. He retired in 1999 as abattalion chief. He served with the Avon Volunteer Fire Department formuch of his retirement, including time as president. He was amember of and photographer for the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club.
In2008 he successfully battled severe throat cancer. Joe was a member ofthe Buxton United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wifeSusan, his sons, Sean Gallagher and Phillip Langman and his daughter Kimberly Barton and five grandchildren.
