FRISCO– Joseph “JT” Toner passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the ageof 54. He was well liked by all. JT was born to Catherine and Frank E.Toner on July 18, 1959 in Ventnor City, N.J. Upon finishing highschool, JT lived for a period of time in California and then Texasprior to moving to Hatteras Island.
A gifted athlete with adeep love for the ocean, he excelled in a number of watersports,including surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing, as well as fishing. Healso was an avid golfer and snowboarder. JT loved to play music, namelyguitar, and would often host friends for “jam sessions.”
Acontractor by trade, JT owned a business, Joseph Toner Construction.During his 27 years on Hatteras Island, he built numerous custom homes.
JT is predeceased by his father, Frank E. Toner, and his brother, Francis “Bootem” Toner.
Heis survived by his mother Catherine; two brothers, Michael Toner(Ellen) of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and John Toner (Brenda) of RoundRock, Texas; one sister, Lori Toner (Bruce) of Doylestown, Pa.;numerous nieces and nephews, and best friend Claudette Lemonde-Gray andher family.
A memorial “paddle out” service for everyone whoselives were touched by JT will be held on Hatteras Island on Saturday,May 24. For more information, please email [email protected].
