HATTERAS– Mrs. Marian Burrus Austin, 87, died peacefully on Feb. 21, 2014surrounded by her loving children. A native of Hatteras, Mrs.Austin was born April 18, 1926 to the late Adolphus Burrus Sr. and LucyStowe Burrus. She was a member of Hatteras United MethodistChurch and a former member of The Daughters of the AmericanRevolution. Mrs. Marian was a loving wife, mother, andgrandmother who devoted her life to her family. She loved to cookand was known for her molasses cookies and her generous nature. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Bruce N. AustinSr.
Mrs. Austin is survived by two daughters, Harriet A. Fisherand husband John of Jarvisburg, N.C., and Theresa D. Williams ofFrisco, and one son, Bruce N. Austin Jr. and wife Dr. Amanda Austin ofManteo. In addition to her children she is survived by fivegrandchildren: Amy D. Kelly (Tim) of Kill Devil Hills, Ryan F.White (Jennifer) of Huntersville, N.C., Dr. Phillip A. Austin (Kelley)of Manteo, Matthew R. Austin of Kill Devil Hills, and Joseph A. Austin(Yessenia) of Chesapeake, Va; and 11 great-grandchildren:Katherine Reilly, Colin and Michaela Kelly of Kill Devil Hills;Austin, Jay, Grady, and Mason White of Huntersville; Sophie and SilasAustin of Manteo and Adrian and Daniella Austin of Chesapeake, Va. Mrs.Austin was also preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Bland andLucy Allen Maurice and three brothers, Alonzo “Lonnie” Burrus Sr.,Adolphus Burrus Jr., and William “Bill” Burrus.
Services will beheld at Hatteras United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m.by Pastors Ken Davenport and Dwight Burrus. Private burial will be heldat Quidley Cemetery, Buxton.
