Cape Hatteras Secondary School (CHSS) of Coastal Studies is in the process of rebuilding its research oyster reef using the oyster rack method, (which entails attaching oysters to a rack before placing in the sound waters), and they need the community’s assistance to help make the operation a success.
Used oyster shells are requested to continue the project, which can be deposited at the school’s designated bins located at Oden’s Dock, Frisco Rod and Gun, or at the CHSS by the bus parking lot.
Throughout the project, the students are embarking on a wonderful journey to begin learning all about the rack method, oyster spat, conservation, and good stewardship for the local island environment and sound.
CHSS appreciates the local support to continue this hands-on and thoroughly educational project!
