Severe Weather with Numerous Thunderstorms Forecast for Friday
The National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City Office reported that there is a potential for severe weather on Friday afternoon and Friday night, per a Wednesday afternoon update.
Hatteras and Ocracoke islands are at an enhanced risk for severe weather, which means that numerous thunderstorms are possible, along with heavy rains, high surf, high winds, and gale conditions along the coastline.
In addition to the severe weather threat, the very strong winds will impact coastal areas throughout the state. With the southerly winds, coastal flooding may be an issue on the soundside of the Outer Banks, especially from Oregon Inlet northward. High surf along with gale conditions are expected on the offshore waters.
