Heat Advisory Remains in Effect for the Outer Banks

A heat advisory remains in effect for Hatteras and Ocracoke islands due to a dangerous combination of heat and humidity, per a Monday morning update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.

This combination of temperatures in the 90s and high humidity with dew points in the low to mid-70s will cause heat index values of up to 107 degrees on the Outer Banks and Eastern North Carolina during the day, and especially in the afternoon. The National Weather Service urges the public to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, and spend time in air conditioning whenever possible.

The hot and humid weather is forecast to linger throughout the week, and the current heat advisory is in effect from noon until 7 p.m. on Monday.

A heat advisory is issued if heat index values of 105 degrees are expected for two consecutive hours or more, or if three or more days of heat index values between 102 and 105 degrees are expected.
