Heat Wave Continues for Ninth Day in a Row; Relief in Sight

For the ninth day in a row, Eastern North Carolina will have dangerous heat conditions with heat indexes of 105-110 on Monday afternoon. However, a cold front, (as well as showers and thunderstorms), is expected on Tuesday, bringing some relief, per the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport / Morehead City office.

A heat advisory has once again been issued for Eastern N.C., including the Outer Banks. Temperatures in the high 80s combined with humidity will make outside temperatures feel like 105 to 110 degrees throughout the afternoon.

Residents and visitors in the Outer Banks are urged to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, and spend time in air conditioning whenever possible.

Showers and storms are expected on Tuesday afternoon and will continue through the evening. On average, 1 to 1.5 inches of rainfall is forecast for Hatteras and Ocracoke islands, with higher amounts inland, and localized flooding is possible. Tuesday night will be followed by cooler and drier weather by the middle of the week.
