Coast Guard Investigating Tugboat Incident at Old Bonner Bridge
On Sunday afternoon, the U.S. Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet responded to a report that the tugboat Miss Bonnie had struck the southern end of the Old Bonner Bridge in Oregon Inlet. The cause of the case is currently under investigation, per a press release from the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard received the report of the allision from a good Samaritan at approximately 11:09 a.m. on Sunday. Per sources close to the incident, the tugboat went to secure a barge in Oregon Inlet and ran aground, and was subsequently rolled over on its side with the strong surf and currents.
The tugboat is currently semi-submerged, and is leaning up against the Old Bonner Bridge as of Monday morning.
All eight people aboard the tugboat returned to shore safely and reported that they had no injuries. No pollution or debirs has been reported.
