Many visitors to the island are curious to know what life on Hatteras Island is like during the winter season. Residents know how erratic the weather can be and how desolate the beaches and roads are. Despite this, many business choose to stay open to serve locals and visitors alike.
Spent the week after Christmas on Hatteras Island and loved it. Great weather, got lucky, and plenty of bars and restaurants open. Had a great NYE at Pangea and as always enjoyed time at Oceanas Bistro in Avon and the sports bar in Buxton. Sadly the only thing that was biting was sharks. But I’ll be back in the fall and maybe next Christmas too.
Winters are much better than the summer months.
