Coast Guard assists boater off Oregon Inlet
Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet personnel assisted a disabled vessel today near Oregon Inlet.
Watchstanders at Sector North Carolina received a report of a disabled 18-foot pleasure craft with two people aboard at approximately 12:35 p.m. The vessel had run out of fuel and was drifting toward the Bonner Bridge.
A 24-foot Special Purpose Craft – Shallow Water (SPC-SW) crew launched from Station Oregon Inlet and arrived on scene at approximately 12:50 p.m. The boat crew spoke to the men aboard the vessel and learned that the fuel gauge was not working properly, giving a false reading.
The RBS crew towed the vessel to the docks at Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, where the owner trailered the vessel.
No injuries or pollution were reported.
“Being prepared and inspecting your equipment is vital,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Alan Hancock, the coxswain of the SPC-SW. “When checking your vessel prior to leaving the dock, every little bit helps.”
