FRISCO — Leota “Lee” Garrett Slagle, 82, of Frisco NC, passed away on March 24, 2020 at Peak Resources with family by her side.
Lee was born October 13, 1937 in Clifton Forge, VA. She attended high school in Covington, Virginia and went on to obtain her Nursing Degree from C&O Hospital Nursing School. Lee spent the first part of her nursing career in the Richmond/Hopewell, Virginia area where she met her husband, “Doc”.
In the 1970’s Lee and family fell in love with the Outer Banks of NC. A love so strong that they made the leap and moved permanently to Hatteras Island. This is where she spent the next 25 years raising a family and working in the family Dental Practice. Approaching retirement, Lee and her late husband relocated to Hilton Head, SC where they lived from 1995-2016. The full retirement life wasn’t for Lee; she re-kindled her passion for nursing and spent part of her “retirement years” working at The Cypress of Hilton Head Island Alzheimer’s Unit.
Lee was a devoted nurse, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a devout Christian with a huge passion for life. Her love and concerns for others had no end and she saw to it that her family, friends and patients’ needs were met well before her own. She never met a stranger, always had a joke or story to tell, and had a knack for making life-long friends wherever she went.
Lee was preceded in death by her husband Garland “Doc” Slagle.
She is survived by her son Mead Slagle and wife Cami Slagle of Frisco, NC. Grandchildren Ashton and Carlee Slagle of Raleigh, NC. Sister Brenda Plumley of Hinton, WV. Niece, Nephews, and many lifelong family friends whom she loved dearly.
At this time a service will not be planned. A private family gathering will take place later in the year.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Cape Hatteras Methodist Men, PO Box 1591, Buxton NC.
