Localized Flash Flooding Possible Through Mid-Week for Eastern N.C.
Widespread rainfall over the past several days has set the stage for potential localized flash flooding from Tuesday through the middle of the week, as an upper-level low brings the potential for periods of heavy rainfall, per the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
An additional 4-6 inches of rain is possible for Hatteras and Ocracoke islands from Monday afternoon through Wednesday, and standing water may be evident on N.C. Highway 12 and adjacent side streets. Travelers should use caution, and avoid flooded roadways when possible.
The Outer Banks and N.C. coastal region will finally begin to dry out by Friday and the weekend, with a return to warm and humid conditions next week.
