Video message from Chairman Bob Woodard explains Dare County’s new face covering mandate
Last week, Dare County and Town officials came together and updated the Emergency Declaration for COVID-19 to include a mandate that face coverings or masks must be worn in indoor and outdoor public spaces where social distancing cannot be maintained. The measure became effective Sunday, June 21 at 9 a.m.
“Our decision that face coverings must now be worn in indoor and outdoor public spaces where social distancing cannot be maintained was unanimous, with myself and the mayors of all six towns in agreement,” remarked Woodard in the video. “It was clear that voluntary compliance with face covering recommendations has not been effective here in Dare County, which is why our local business owners had requested a stronger tool for compliance, for everyone’s safety.”
“I assure you that local officials are keeping a close eye on the situation, receiving daily, sometimes hourly updates, and will continue to assess the situation, listen to our citizens and business owners, and come together, working to make decisions that are in the best interest of the entire community, to protect the health and safety of all,” said Woodard.
