Outdoor church service on Sunday to commemorate one-year anniversary of Hurricane Dorian
The combined service by Ocracoke’s two churches at 9 a.m. Sunday will commemorate the year to the day in which Ocracoke suffered flooding devastation by Hurricane Dorian.
All are welcome to attend the service that will observe social distancing on the lawn of Books to be Red. Attendees should bring their own lawn chairs.
Ivey Belch, pastor of the Life Saving Church, and Susie Fitch-Slater, pastor of Ocracoke United Methodist Church, will conduct the service as they have been doing on Sunday mornings since shortly after Dorian hit Sept. 6, 2019.
After the storm flooded the United Methodist Church, the two pastors joined forces, along with their respective services.
The church building has been lifted and is being repaired.
Belch said it would be nice for the community to attend this remembrance of the last year and to celebrate Ocracoke’s progress.
“We want the community to attend and be involved,” he said.
