Coast Guard Assists Vessel near Oregon Inlet
Over the weekend, personnel from the U.S. Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet assisted a vessel off of Oregon Inlet that had run around at the Oregon Inlet bar.
On the evening of November 6, the station received a report of a 38 ft. sport fisher vessel with 1 person on board that had run aground on the bar, just north of the channel.
After launching the station’s 47 Motor Life Boat, the vessel reported that he was out of the breaking waves, but was still being bounced on the bottom. This brought concerns of damage to the vessel’s hull or rudder posts, which could inevitably cause flooding on the vessel.
Shortly after the report, the vessel broke free of the bar. However, in the dark conditions, the vessel needed assistance locating the channel. Upon arriving on the scene, the Coast Guard’s 47 confirmed that the vessel was not taking on any water and was able to make way under their own power. The 47 then escorted the vessel safely back to their home port.
