Colony Realty is sold to John and Julia Head
Colony Realty Corp. of Avon, owned by Jack and Leslie Painter, has been sold to John and Julia Head of Frisco.
The Heads are currently managing multiple long-term rentals and sell real estate through their company on Highway 12 in Frisco, Resort Professionals, Realtors on the Outer Banks.
Colony Realty, which sold its vacation rental division to Resort Realty last May, has the largest portfolio of long-term rental housing on Hatteras and also manages condominium associations.
Julia and John Head said they have purchased the corporation and the long-term rental portfolio, and that Julia will work with Leslie Painter “to make the transition as smooth as possible for the homeowners and tenants.”
John Head will continue for now to sell real estate through Resort Professionals.
In a statement, Jack and Leslie Goldberg Painter said that they have “absolute confidence that the new ownership will continue the high level of service, a Colony hallmark.”
Julia Head said that she and her husband “are proud to continue with the heritage” of Colony Realty, which was founded 50 years ago by Leslie’s uncle, George Goldberg, as a vacation property development corporation in Avon.
Colony eventually involved into construction, vacation rentals, and property management.
Ownership passed to Leslie’s father, Ed Goldberg, a well-known Avon realtor and builder, and then to his son, Jeffrey. The Painters became the owners in 2000.
In a statement, the Painters expressed their gratitude to their many friends, acquaintances, vendors, and guests over the past 15 years and “a whole lot of fun along the way.”
The couple said they are looking forward to retirement, “for as long as it lasts.” Though their retirement plans are indefinite, they say they don’t plan to leave Hatteras Island.
“We love this island and its resilient people,” they said. “We seem to fit in here.”
