Southern Hatteras Island and Ocracoke on Generator Power; Another Brief Outage will Occur Later in the Week
Following a brief power outage on Monday morning for Avon and the Tri-villages, southern Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island will remain on generator power for the next several days as the Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative (CHEC) completes several maintenance projects scheduled for the week.
Imminent projects include the installation of a new circuit breaker, and Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras village and Ocracoke will be powered by generators during the duration of the work.
“Buxton to Ocracoke will remain on generator power for the next couple of days,” stated Laura Ertle, Director of Public Relations and Marketing for CHEC. “We have several maintenance projects going on right now – including a new circuit breaker being installed in the Buxton stepdown station.”
Once work is complete, another brief power outage will be required for Avon and the Tri-villages, and likely in the middle of the week. More details will be provided by CHEC on the timing of the outage as work progresses.
