Dangerous Rip Currents Likely This Weekend
A strong easterly swell will create an elevated risk of dangerous rip currents all along Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands this weekend, per a Thursday morning update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
The threat is expected to increase through the weekend, peaking on Sunday and Monday. A high risk of rip currents means that life-threatening rip currents are likely, and the surf zone is dangerous for all levels of swimmers.
