The Outer Banks Hospital’s Center for Healthy Living will host free, walk-in A1C prediabetes screening events at various Dare County Library locations on Monday, July 12, 2021, and Thursday, July 15, 2021.
On July 12, the prediabetes screening event will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kill Devil Hills Library, which is located at 400 Mustian Street in Kill Devil Hills. Another screening event will also be held on July 12 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Manteo Library, which is located at 700 U.S. Highway 64 in Manteo.
A third A1C prediabetes screening event will be held on July 15 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hatteras Library, which is located at 57709 N.C. Highway 12 in Hatteras Village.
These free screening events are open to any Dare County resident, property owner or visitor age 18 or older. No appointment is necessary. A1C screenings measure an individual’s blood glucose level over the past three months.
Upon arrival at their library location of choice, staff members will direct participants to the screening area. When it is a participant’s time to be tested, a simple finger stick blood sample will be taken. The results of the test only take a few minutes to receive, and hospital staff members will go over the test results with the individual who was tested within a few minutes of the sample being taken.
