KILL DEVIL HILLS — Betty Mae Pelo Kuntz, 90, passed away peacefully at her Kill Devil Hills, NC residence Friday, August 6, 2021, with her family by her side. Betty was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Cora Mae Pelo and the sister of the late Robert Pelo, Franklin Pelo, and Lewis Pelo.
Betty was born and raised in Tamaqua, PA. She spent over forty years of her life here on the Outer Banks. In the early 1990s, Betty founded and ran Nana’s Thrift Shop in Kill Devil Hills, NC. After she retired from the shop, Betty Mae devoted most of her time to the family she cherished.
Her survivors include her son and caregiver for over ten years, Michael Kuntz, Jr. (Milly Whitfield) of the Kill Devil Hills residence, daughter Deborah Burden (Chip) of Kitty Hawk, NC, and daughter Michele Torrance also of Kill Devil Hills. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Ryan, Nicole, and Wesley Torrance, Melissa Overton (Jake), Nicholas Burden, and Alex Costanzo (Krystal); five great-grandchildren, Jax and Jennings Overton, Maddox Torrance, and Austin and Mila Costanzo; as well as several nieces and nephews including niece, Nancy Moyer, and nephew, Gregg Pelo both of Tamaqua, PA.
As she requested, Betty’s funeral and burial will take place back home in Tamaqua, PA on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. at Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully suggests making donations to a worthy Alzheimer’s charity of your choice.
