MANTEO — Dorothy Sarver Matlock, 76, of Manteo, NC died Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.
A native of Pennington Gap, VA, she was born February 4, 1945, to the late Nettie Shell Sarver and Charles Sarver.
After retiring from Lee County Virginia Public Schools, Dorothy moved to Manteo in 2010. Having vacationed on the Outer Banks for many years, this was the place she loved and wanted to be.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Terry Anderson of Manteo, NC; son, Jim Matlock of Cary, NC; brother, Kelton Sarver (Katy) of Lexington, NC; sister, Helen Bramer (Jim) of Roper, NC; nieces and nephews, Evonne Collins, Susan Sarver, Christy Sarver Cook (Joey), Denise Sarver Welch, Misti Collins, Ellie Churchill, Emma Welch, Tristan Welch, Reagan Cook, Lindsay Cook, and Jackson Cook; and special cousins, Lillian Shell and Carl Shell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Campbell “Cam” Matlock; brother, Ray Sarver (Pat); sister, Juanita Sarver Miles (Arville); and nephew, Fred Sarver, Jr. (Kim).
Dorothy will be missed by her family and friends (too many to count). In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo where she volunteered for many years.
