Rachel Lee Cockerham, 29, died unexpectedly Monday, September 13, 2021, in Manteo, NC. Rachel was born in San Diego, California on December 24, 1991, to Wendy and William Cockerham.
Rachel is survived by her mother, Wendy of Manteo; her two children, nine-year-old Gabriella (dad Darion) and six-year-old Bryce (dad Noel); her older sister, Kelli (and nephews, Robert and Caleb), her older brother, Brandon (and nephews Oliver and Benjamin), her younger sister, Chelsea and fiancée Jamie (and niece Jessa and nephew Steven); her baby sister, Summer; and her grandmother, Gloria; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and loving friends. Rachel was preceded in death by her father, Alan.
Rachel has lived in Manteo ever since 1998. Rachel grew up with a passion for playing volleyball, softball, and participating actively in the school band. She graduated from Manteo High School in 2010. Rachel was well known for her hard work at Poor Richards restaurant for the past 14 years where she created strong bonds and friendships with her co-workers and customers. On September 16, 2011, she welcomed her daughter Gabbie, and on June 5, 2015 her son Bryce, who were the most important parts of her life.
Rachel was well known for her bright personality, beautiful smile, and quirky sense of humor. She will be remembered most of all though, for how hard-working and big-hearted she was. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Rachels’ funeral service will be held at the First Assembly of God Church in Manteo at 11 am on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. Pastor Tim Fitch will officiate. Attendees may mask at their own discretion. The burial will immediately follow the funeral, at Manteo Cemetery with Brandon Rowe, Darion Overton, Jamie MacDonald, Brian Ball, Evan Cox and Ryan Jeffords honorably serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family is urgently asking those wishing to honor Rachel do so with donations made directly to Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. to offset her funeral expenses.
