Campgrounds are open and the Hatteras lighthouse climbing season has begun.
Community members are invited to participate in wildfire risks educational meeting. At the information sessions, the National Park Service (NPS), North Carolina Forest Service, North Carolina Coastal Reserve, and the Fish and Wildlife Service will discuss: Risks of wildfires, Steps to prevent or minimize damages from wildfires, Advantages of maintaining fire boundaries, Information on becoming a Firewise community. Meeting is at the Cape Hatteras Secondary School on Monday April 23, 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Current beach access update and date reminders (Regulations/dates/times same as last year).
Seasonal ORV routes in front of villages are only open to pedestrians from now until Oct 14
ORV routes are open to night driving until April 30
May 1-July 31: Priority ramps open 6:00am-9:00pm. Hatteras Island Priority Ramps are 25, 27, 43, 44, 48, 49. All other ramps open at 7 a.m.
Beach Fires are allowed May 1-Nov 15 in front of villages from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
