Not that it should come as a surprise, but occupancy and meals revenue for Dare County this past August smashed records for that month that were set just one year ago.
According to the report from the Dare County Tourism Board, occupancy collections for August 2021 reached $158.3 million, up 13% from the August 2020 total of $139.7 million. The meal collections for this past August hit $45.6 million, which is up an impressive 32% from the $34.7 in August 2020.
The year-to-date comparisons are not exactly apples-to-apples comparisons since the county was shut down to visitors for two months in 2020. That notwithstanding, occupancy collections through August 2021 are up 41% over the previous year while meals collections are 65%.
