Strong low pressure system could bring coastal flooding this weekend
A strong coastal low pressure system is expected to impact Eastern North Carolina this weekend, including the Outer Banks, with the potential for ocean overwash and coastal flooding.
While it’s too still early for specific impacts, which are very dependent on the track and strength of the low pressure system, a prolonged period of strong N/NE winds will combine with high astronomical tides and dangerous seas to produce several hazards along the coast throughout the weekend.
The threat for coastal flooding, ocean overwash, rough surf, and beach erosion is increasing, and is expected to peak on Saturday and Sunday. The forecast will be refined in the coming days, and the Island Free Press will post updates as soon as they become available.
