BUXTON — Stephen Lamotta Jennette passed away peacefully on February 20, 2022, at the age of 71 surrounded by his family and close friends at his home.
A native of Buxton, he was born March 24, 1950, to the late Faye and Joseph Jennette. He was preceded in death by his brother Joey Jennette.
Stephen proudly graduated from Cape Hatteras School. He attended both Southeastern University and UNC Greensboro. He went on to graduate from ODU with his bachelor’s degree. Right after college, he returned home where he began his career with the County of Dare Planning Department. During his retirement, he continued to volunteer within the community. He was a CHS booster club member and a substitute teacher for the school. Stephen was also an active member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church where he was a board member.
Those who knew Stephen, AKA “Uncle Steve,” were blessed as he was someone you could always confide in and who loved to have a good time. He loved the Lord, his family, and going out to eat. He had patience and strength and was known for his kind heart and joyous spirit. He was a man of faith. You would often see him riding around with his lifelong friends Tod and Angie Gaskill or cutting up with their son Cullen.
Stephen is survived by his sisters, Alice and husband Art McGreevy, Josie and husband Joseph Farrow; brother, Dale Jennette; nieces, Charlotte, Ruby, Mona, Sandy Jo, Jennifer and husband Forrest Paddock; nephew, Ethan Farrow; and great-nephews, Tucker, Ayden, and Brody who will miss him tremendously.
Visitation will be held at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, Wednesday, February 23, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be at the church on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at 3:00 pm. Private burial will take place in the Jennette cemetery.
