Series of weekly beach cleanup events will be held in Rodanthe starting Wednesday
For the next eight Wednesdays, Cape Hatteras National Seashore is partnering with the Outer Banks KOA Resort to hold volunteer beach cleanup events, and the public is invited to partcipate. Volunteers should pick up supplies between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. at 25099 N.C. Highway 12 in Rodanthe, N.C.
All volunteers are encouraged to wear thick soled footwear and bring leather gloves, hats, water, snacks and sunscreen. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
“We are grateful to the KOA in Rodanthe for their efforts to host these volunteer beach cleanup events and help to steward the beaches at America’s first national seashore,” said National Parks of Eastern North Carolina Superintendent David Hallac.
Individuals who plan to clean the beach outside the hours of the organized beach cleanup events, should place garbage bags and debris above the high tide line to ensure the items don’t get washed back into the ocean.
The series of Wednesday beach cleanup events begins March 9 and ends April 27. For additional information on volunteer opportunities at the Seashore, visit www.volunteer.gov or call 252-475-9042.
