Severe thunderstorms possible on Saturday
A cold front will push through the Outer Banks on Saturday evening, and a few thunderstorms may develop ahead of this front during the afternoon and early evening hours, per a Friday afternoon update from the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport/Morehead City office.
Storms could potentially become severe, but the Outer Banks currently has a slight risk of storms materializing. If any storms can organize, the threats would mainly be damaging wind gusts and large hail. Coastal flooding is not forecasted for the Outer Banks area at this time.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for the Pamlico Sound from 2:00 p.m. Saturday until 4:00 a.m. Sunday due to southwest winds of 15-25 knots with gusts up to 30 knots, and rough waters expected. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions.
