Coast Guard Assists Boat Run Aground Near Oregon Inlet

On Thursday morning while conducting training offshore, the U.S. Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet received notification over VHF-FM radio from the vessel Kokomo that there was a small 20’ pleasure craft that had run aground and was possibly taking on water behind the Oregon Inlet station.

Both of the Coast Guard’s 47’ motor lifeboats (MLB) immediately broke from training and raced to the site to assist. Upon arriving on scene, the 47258 MLB was able to toss a line over to the vessel and pull them into the marked navigable channel. At the same time, the station’s 24536 MLB arrived on scene and put the disabled vessel into side tow.

The 24536 MLB brought the disabled vessel and all three people on board back to the Oregon Inlet Boat Ramps, arriving safely before noon. No injuries were reported during the incident.
