The Dare County Public Works Department has announced that residential trash collection will be conducted in the villages of Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras on Thursday, May 12, 2022.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has stated that it hopes to reopen N.C. Highway 12 on Hatteras Island by mid-morning on Thursday, May 12, 2022. The highway has been closed between the Marc Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe since the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 10, 2022, due to ocean overwash from a stationary low-pressure system.
Once NCDOT reopens N.C. Highway 12, Dare County Public Works will begin to perform commercial trash collection throughout all areas of Hatteras Island. If Dare County Public Works crews are unable to complete commercial trash collection in all areas of Hatteras Island on Thursday, May 12, 2022, they will return to complete the process on Friday, May 13, 2022.
There have been no changes or issues with trash collection in the areas north of Oregon Inlet during the adverse weather conditions that have occurred this week. Residential trash collection will continue to operate on its normal schedule on Thursday, May 12, 2022, for Colington and the Town of Kitty Hawk.
NOTE: If any additional schedule changes are necessary, updates will be posted as soon as possible.
