Hatteras Island Schools Remain Closed; Northern OBX Schools to Open Tuesday
Per an update from Keith Parker, Digital Communications and Middle School Director for Dare County Schools, northern Outer Banks schools will open to students on Tuesday, but Hatteras Island schools will remain closed for the immediate future.
The district safety team canvased facilities in the northern Outer Banks and have found minimal storm impacts north of the Bonner Bridge. As of now, it appears that it will be physically possible to have school on Monday except on Hatteras Island.
Monday, September 17, will be an optional teacher workday for teachers in the northern Outer Banks area. Dare County Schools will plan to open schools in the Manteo, Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk communities on Tuesday, September 18.
Schools on Hatteras Island will be closed until further notice. Should weather-related conditions warrant a change in the current plan, the public will be notified.
