Strong thunderstorms and heavy rains possible through Friday

Strong thunderstorms and heavy rains are expected to continue through Friday night, especially along the N.C. coast, per an update from the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport / Morehead City office.

Periods of thunderstorms with downpours and strong wind gusts could lead to rainfall accumulations of up to 2 inches, especially for the southern Outer Banks. Localized flooding is possible, especially for areas that have already received recent heavy rains.
