Coast Guard, Dare County EMS Assist with Wave-Related Injury at Oregon Inlet
The U.S. Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet, along with the Dare County EMS, responded to an injury call on Wednesday morning when a wave damaged the windshield of a vessel outside of Oregon Inlet.
At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the U.S. Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet received notification over VHF-FM radio from the vessel Carolina Girl stating that a wave had come over their bow while crossing the bar, and had smashed through their windshield.
The station’s 47’ motor lifeboat (MLB) 47258 was already underway to conduct a morning bar report and was able to be on scene with minutes.
Upon arriving on scene, the crew of the 47258 MLB determined that the Carolina Girl still had power and was able to make her own way towards shore. The 47258 MLB then escorted the vessel to Wanchese Harbor, where Dare County EMS met the vessel to provide care to at least one individual who had suffered injuries during the incident.
