NAGS HEAD — Dina Sample Lane Etheridge, age 76, of Nags Head, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with Dementia.
Dina was born in Richmond, Virginia on March 2, 1946, to Roy Winfred Lane and Ina Brothers Lane of Tappahannock, Virginia. Dina was preceded in death by her parents.
Dina is survived by her husband of 24 years, Daniel Hill Etheridge “Danny”, of the home; Her daughter, Tracy Jenkins (Andy) and son, Travis Croxton (Kristi), Bethany Etheridge, Brittany Etheridge Fountain (Daniel) and Aimee Etheridge Moody (Slater); her brother, Tommy Lane (Becky); her 10 grandchildren; Eve Jenkins, Hayden Jenkins, Riley Croxton, Dylan Croxton, Alden Croxton, Elijah Fountain, Noah Fountain, Judah Fountain, Dani Moody, Haley Moody, and countless nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Dina graduated from Tappahannock High School, in Tappahannock Virginia as Salutatorian of her class. Dina continued her education and graduated from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg Virginia where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in education. Dina taught as a teacher in Hanover (Battlefield), Glen Allen and Essex County (Tappahannock) in Virginia and continued to teach throughout her life. After years of teaching, she became a licensed real estate agent in the state of Virginia. Dina always had a Heart for helping people. She volunteered as a Court Advocate for a Domestic Violence Women Shelter in Virginia where she would help women find a new start in their life.
When Dina moved to North Carolina she continued to teach as a substitute in the Dare County and the Currituck County School Systems. Dina loved teaching and helping children to succeed. For six years Dina and Danny served as Teaching Parents for abused and neglected children for the Methodist Home for Children and The Wright Place Youth Home in Manteo North Carolina. Dina received her North Carolina Real Estate License and joined Caldwell Banker Seaside Realty in Kitty Hawk and Nags Head as a Closing Administrator. Dina later moved to Richmond Virginia and became the Office Administrator for Boone Homes.
Dina loved her family and cherished her childhood memories with her cousins; Susan Williams, Shelton Davis and Carole Etheridge Lowry. Dina loved playing tennis with friends and on competitive teams. She also played bridge with her Glen Allen Teachers’ Bridge Group in Richmond, Virginia. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Dina’s parents would bring the family to Nags Head for their family vacations for as long as she could remember. She loved seeing the sunrise and the sunset, the ocean, the sand, the beach glass and yes, the dolphins. Dina had a love for reading. Daily she would read her Bible and countless times, when she read it through, she would start all over again.
Psalms 23:6 “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
A Memorial Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 30, 2022, at the Cudworth Cemetery in Wanchese, North Carolina. Reverend David Daniels will be officiating the service.
