KILL DEVIL HILLS — Karen Kay Haupt, 53, of Kill Devil Hills passed away on October 12, 2022 in Virginia Beach after a valiant fight with cancer. Karen was born in Reading, PA on November 28, 1968 to the late Warren and Hannah Berger.
Karen graduated from Fleetwood High School in Pennsylvania and then attended Kutztown University graduating with a degree in Medical Technology. After working in the medical field in Pennsylvania, she moved to the Outer Banks in 2001 where she loved the “beach life” and helping others, in addition to working at the Outer Banks Hospital. Karen made many fond memories with family and friends over the years.
Karen is survived by her daughter, Emily Haupt of Nags Head; sister, Brenda Conaway (Joel) of Allentown, PA; half-sister, Janice Eisenhart (James) of Macungie, PA; nieces and nephew, Laura, Lindsay, and Christopher Conaway all of Allentown, PA; and a host of extended family members and close friends. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service in Pennsylvania is pending at this time and will be announced when finalized. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the OBH Cancer Center Fund or Cancer Cares Fund online at the OBX Hospital Cancer Center Fund Donation Portal or via donation form with credit card or check using the OBX Hospital Donation Form.
