Storm system could bring coastal flooding, strong winds late this week
A strong storm system will move through the East Coast later this week, bringing the potential for strong winds, rough surf, and possible coastal flooding, per an update from the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport/Morehead City office.
From Thursday through Saturday, December 22-24, an unusually strong cold front will bring moderate to strong winds, colder than normal temperatures and wind chill values, and moderate to heavy rainfall.
Rough surf could lead to minor beach erosion, especially in areas with compromised dune systems, and oceanside and soundside flooding is possible, although it is too early to determine the severity of these impacts.
Additional updates will be posted throughout the week as forecast confidence evolves.
