Suspect who fled the scene of Saturday night crash in Frisco arrested
A man who fled the scene of a two-car traffic accident in Frisco on July 15 which resulted in multiple injuries was arrested on Monday evening, July 18, per the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
David Godinez of Cary, NC, has been charged with multiple offenses, including three counts of (F) Serious Injury by Vehicle, (T) Reckless Driving to Endanger, (T) Driving While Impaired, and (T) Speeding, as well as additional offenses. Godinez is currently at the Dare County Detention Center with a $275,000 bond, and his first Dare County Court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, July 20.
The accident occurred at approximately 10:20 p.m. on N.C. Highway 12 near the Frisco Mini Golf & Go Kart track.
Per the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a Toyota truck traveling north on N.C. Highway 12 crossed the center lane and hit a Honda SUV head-on that was traveling south. The occupants of the Toyota truck were from the Cary, NC area, while the occupants of the Honda were from the Wilmington, NC area.
Godinez, the driver of the Toyota, fled the scene of the accident on foot on Saturday night, leaving behind two passengers.
There were four occupants, including the driver, in the Honda. Three suffered minor injuries and were released from the hospital by Monday, and one passenger in the Honda was critically injured and was airlifted from the scene.
One of the two remaining passengers in the Toyota, who was identified as the driver’s son by lead State Trooper W.L. Allred, was also airlifted to the hospital due to severe injuries.
Multiple agencies responded to the accident, including the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Dare County Sheriff’s Office, Hatteras Island Rescue Squad, Frisco Volunteer Fire Department, and Dare County EMS.
