Excessive heat expected through the weekend
A combination of very warm temperatures and high humidity will result in dangerous heat index values on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office.
Minimum heat indices of 1oo degrees are expected through Saturday, with a heat index of up to 105 forecasted for Thursday on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands. Temperatures will be in the mid-to-high 80s through Saturday.
The intense heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
