Local authorities investigating death in Hatteras Village
At approximately 12:49 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16, Deputies with the Dare County Sheriff’s Office, Dare County EMS, and Hatteras Island Rescue were dispatched to a call for service in the area of the 57000 block of Kohler Drive in Hatteras.
The Deputies made contact with a person, and comments were made about a body in a residence. When deputies arrived, they located Luther Dudley Burrus III, deceased, in his Hatteras home.
Investigators from the Dare County Sheriff’s Office and a Medical Examiner responded to the scene and conducted a death investigation.
The cause of death is currently unknown, pending an autopsy expected to occur later this week. The investigation is continuing, and The Island Free Press will post updates as they become available.
