Day at the Docks canceled due to storm concerns
The annual Day at the Docks festival, which was originally scheduled for September 16-17, has been canceled due to an ongoing Coastal Flood Warning which may impact Hatteras village and N.C. Highway 12 through the weekend.
“Unfortunately, with the latest Coastal Flood Warning and the water already breaching the dunes coming into the village, we have to consider the safety of all involved and we are canceling Day at the Docks,” stated organizers in an update. “We do plan to reschedule the Blessing of the Fleet and Seafood Under the Stars at a later date to be determined, but for now, it will take some time to do everything that needs to be done to accomplish this cancellation.”
Initially launched as a one-day event in 2004, Day at the Docks (DATD) was created as a community-wide effort to recover after Hurricane Isabel, which cut a new inlet south of the village, effectively separating Hatteras from the rest of the world for weeks.
A Coastal Flood Warning has been issued for the Outer Banks starting at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, September 14, with ocean overwash and impacts to N.C. Highway 12 possible due to distant Hurricane Lee. For more information on the latest weather updates, click here.
