Dare County’s Operation Green Light initiative to honor veterans begins November 6
Dare County proudly announces the recent passage of a resolution in support of honoring local veterans by participating in Operation Green Light, a National Association of Counties initiative that encourages residents and businesses to show their support to local veterans by shining green lights throughout their communities to let local veterans know they are seen, appreciated and supported.
The Dare County Board of Commissioners strongly encourages residents and business owners to join in the efforts and recognize the importance of honoring all those who made immeasurable sacrifices to preserve our freedom by displaying green lights at their place of business or their residence from November 6, 2023, through November 19, 2023.
An array of Dare County government buildings and facilities will be illuminated with green lighting in honor of these local heroes during this time period—which coincides with both Veterans Day and the four-day period during which The Wall That Heals will be on display in the community—as a symbol of appreciation and support for the veterans who have so selflessly served our nation.
The Wall That Heals—a traveling, three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., that tours the country along with a mobile education center—will be on display at the Soundside Event Site in Nags Head from Thursday, November 16, 2023, to Sunday, November 19, 2023.
Honoring the more than 3 million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War, The Wall That Heals is 375 feet in length and bears the names of the 58,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. The free exhibit will be open to the public 24 hours a day during its stay in Dare County this November.
