Coastal flooding possible Monday night and Tuesday
A period of gale-force southwesterly winds is expected along the Outer Banks beginning tomorrow and continuing through Tuesday, resulting in a threat for minor to moderate sound-side flooding on Monday night and Tuesday.
Inundation of 2-3 ft. with locally higher amounts up to 4 ft. is possible from Hatteras to the northern Outer Banks. Minor to locally moderate sound-side flooding will also be possible along areas adjacent to the northwestern Pamlico, Croatan, Roanoke, and eastern Albemarle Sounds.
Wind gusts of 45-50 mph are also expected with this system near Ocracoke, with widespread 35-40 mph across the rest of the coastal N.C. area. In addition, widespread 2-3 inches of rainfall is expected over the next several days, which could lead to minor flooding of low-lying areas.
