February 15, 1949 – April 3, 2024
MANTEO — Sharon Seger Fiegel, age 75, of Manteo, NC (formerly of Lockport, NY and born and raised free-range in Grampian, PA) passed away in her sleep on April 3, 2024.
Sharon was the youngest of 6 siblings, born to Louella Mahlon and Burton Seger of Grampian, PA. A literal coal miners daughter, Sharon overcame many challenges in her childhood. She met and married her devoted friend and husband of 56 years, Robert James Fiegel, in Lockport, NY in 1967.
Her love of learning and motivation to achieve led her to complete her degree in nursing while raising 3 children and caring for her home and family. She went on to serve as a nurse in the
Emergency Department of many hospitals in Western NY and the Outer Banks, and saved her most colorful patient encounters to share around the dinner table.
She loved to explore history and religions, finding and honing endless artistic endeavors like antiquing, furniture refurbishing, decorating, sewing, painting and do-it-herself improvement. She motivated those she loved to achieve their potential and was a fierce advocate to those in need.
Sharon was fond of storytelling and visiting with friends and extended family and cherished her drop in visits and phone calls from siblings, nieces, nephews, kids and grands and all those who would slow down to chat and stop to smell the roses.
A most passionate creator of lush and vibrant gardens, Sharon earned the prestigious Roanoke Voyager Corridor Beautification Award. She also enjoyed working at the Elizabethan Gardens.
She was a loyal and doting fur mom to many blessed and spoiled dogs. She was a devoted and spirited wife, mom, sister, friend, aunt, great-aunt and grandma. But her greatest achievement was
leaving literal flowers in her footsteps. She was the embodiment of one of her favorite sayings, “Bloom where you are planted.”
Sharon will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind including her husband Bob, brother Jim, children Camille, Chris, Robin and Eric (son-in-law) and grandchildren Kito, Isa, Oliver and Jordan.
She is surely thrilled to be reuniting with the many friends and family who passed before her including her sisters Jean and Dalma, her brothers Sam and Dick, and her dogs Abby, Radar, Bear,
Josie, Simon, Nutmeg & Mitzi.
Family and friends will be received at the Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 1 to 3 pm.
Twiford Funeral Homes, Outer Banks is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.TwifordFH.com
