Paddle Palooza will be held on June 23, with new, lower price to register
The Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation (HICF) is sponsoring the 2024 Paddle Palooza in honor of Andy McKinney on Sunday, June 23, and everyone is welcome to join in the fun of a lightly competitive 5K race on the open waters of the Pamlico Sound.
The cost to enter the 5K race is $25, and participants can paddleboard or kayak their way through the on-the-water course that launches from OceanAir Sports in Avon. There’s also a $10 Fun Race for kids and adults who want to join in the festivities, but enjoy an easier ride.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the race starts at 10 a.m. The event also features a big raffle – with gift certificates and goodies from local businesses – as well as SUP yoga, food, drinks, awards, and much more.
Everyone is welcome to this fun summertime event, and paddlers can register in advance online at https://paddleguru.com/races/HICFPaddlePaloozainHonorofAndyMcKinney.
About the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation
The HICF is an all-volunteer and non-profit organization that supports cancer patients and their families living on Hatteras Island. Founded in December 2000, the foundation’s primary goal is to raise funds to provide financial assistance for medical bills, prescriptions, travel expenses, and other needs that might not be taken care of by insurance. To date, the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation has assisted over 235 islanders with cancer and their families with grants in excess of $1,000,000.
