We are sad to announce the passing of Norman Clarke Morse Sr., known to many as Stormin Norman, age 85, of Coinjock, NC. He died in his home on May 14, 2024. He was born in Virginia Beach, VA, on May 9, 1939, to the late Elsworth Morse and Cecelia Mamie Ethridge Morse. He served many years in the Virginia Beach Police Department and retired as a Sergeant in 1976.
After retiring, he indulged in many passions and adventures, from being the first mate on private sport fishing boats all over the East Coast and abroad to an avid deer and duck hunter with his faithful companion, Sassy. He loved his family, friends, good people, and good times. Most evenings, you could find him on his back porch having a stiff cocktail with his friends, known as “The Sewing Circle,” telling “Fish Stories.” He was definitely one of a kind and will be greatly missed.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, two brothers, and his oldest son, Norman Clarke Morse Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Anna Benson (Scott) of Coinjock, NC; his son, Raleigh Keith Morse of Gloucester, VA, his stepdaughter Lisa Whitley Umphlett (Lee) of KDH, NC; his stepson Billy “Will” Whitley of KDH, NC; four grandchildren, Windy Gwinn Furr, Logan Morse, Christopher Horsfield, and Michael Horsfield; and three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Bradley, and Makayla.
Any formal or informal services will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to The North Carolina Beach Buggy Association, PO Box 189, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948.
