KITTY HAWK — Jeannie Manger Shelton, 75, of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, died Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the Outer Banks Hospital with her family by her side. Born in Washington, DC, she was preceded in death by her parents, Connie F. Manger and William F. Manger; her sister, Karen Hansen; and the love of her life, her husband, Robert A. “Bob” Shelton.
She is survived by her two daughters, Heather Shelton of Ormond Beach, Florida, and Connie Shelton Litt and her partner Steven R. DeLeon of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina; grandchildren, Robert F. Litt and his wife Myra G. Litt, Joseph A. Sica, and Alex J. Litt and his fiancé Joshua T. Chadwick; and her loving dog baby doll Sophia Maria.
Jeannie grew up in Northern Virginia, first working at her parents’ hardware store “Village Hardware” in Alexandria. She then married Bob in 1968 after dating since the 6th grade. After having their daughters Heather and Connie, they moved to Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1973. Jeannie worked for Dunn Brothers Hardware as a Manager of the housewares department for years before opening an unfinished furniture and gifts store, “The Bushel Basket,” in South Daytona. There, she painted and created unique gifts alongside her husband, Bob. In 1997, she retired from Lloyd Buick where she worked as a Customer Relations Manager. Jeannie and Bob then moved to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, where they had vacationed together as kids. Their adult children soon followed.
Shortly after retiring, she was diagnosed with colon cancer. After many surgeries and chemotherapy, Jeannie won the battle and was a 25+ year cancer survivor.
Also known as “Mimi” to her family and many friends who considered her their own Mimi, she took time to get to know you. Her laughter brightened up a room, and her wonderful sense of humor made everyone feel at home. Jeannie was an amazing Mother and shined as a Mimi, always caring, protecting, and loving her family. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.
“MY HEART IS YOUR HEART,” Jeannie and Bob whispered to each other throughout their beautiful love story. Reunited again in eternity.
A private family service will be held to honor Jeannie’s life and legacy. Memorial donations may be made to the Outer Banks SPCA in memory of Jeannie Manger Shelton, a woman who touched many lives with her grace and kindness.
