WANCHESE — James Murray Cox, 60, of Wanchese, NC, affectionately known as “Swivel,” passed away on July 18, 2024. He was born on January 24, 1964, in Norfolk, VA, to the late MaryAnn Burbage and James Henderson Cox.
James dedicated his career as a licensed refrigeration mechanic, retiring after 40 years of service with the Wanchese Fish Company. His commitment and hard work were well respected by all who knew him.
He was a Past Master of Manteo Lodge #521 AF & AM, a Shriner, and served with dedication in the Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department.
Swivel is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Midgette Cox; his two cherished daughters, Erica and Rhonda Cox; and three treasured grandchildren, Morgan, Danielle, and Emmie Sawyer. He also leaves behind his sister, Susan Harris Cole (Ricky); brother, Ron Moore (Beth); nephew, Hunter; two nieces, Channing and Lexie; and many friends.
A celebration of James’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Manteo Lodge #521 AF & AM (105 Old NC 345, Manteo). Following the service, all are invited to join the family at the home of Peggy Cox (27 Barbican Way, Manteo) beginning at 4:00 pm.
James will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community. His legacy of hard work, dedication, and love will forever be remembered.
