Ocracoke-mainland and Ocracoke passenger ferry operations suspended for Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 3
The Ocracoke-Cedar Island and Ocracoke-Swan Quarter ferry operations have been suspended for Tuesday afternoon, September 3, due to high winds, per an update from the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division.
The Ocracoke passenger ferry service is also suspended for Tuesday, and the Hatteras-Ocracoke vehicular ferry is running on a limited schedule because of the deteriorating weather conditions.
Ferry service will resume once weather conditions improve. Hazardous beach conditions are also forecast for Tuesday throughout Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, with dangerous shorebreak of 4-6 feet and a high risk of rip currents throughout the Outer Banks.
